Malden Fire Department received $7575 from the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Grant Program and $3455 from the Senior SAFE Program to support fire education programs for children and seniors.

Funds from the S.A.F.E. grant will be used to help Malden Fire Department to partner with the local school system to teach fire safety. The program has made fire safety education available to hundreds of thousands of children and resulted in a 78% drop in children dying in fires annually.

This success led to the launch of the Senior SAFE program which aims to do the same for seniors by funding presentations at senior centers and home visits with smoke and CO alarm installations

The Malden Fire Department was awarded a total of $21,691 from the MA Department of Fire Services.

The program allows fire departments to purchase and upgrade a variety of equipment that will make firefighters' jobs safer so they in turn can continue to protect our communities. The grants awarded will fund up to 118 types of equipment, protective gear, up-to-date technology and more.

This fiscal year (FY22), the MA Department of Fire Services will invest a total of $5 million into the program, supporting 306 fire departments across the Commonwealth.

Congratulations and thank you Malden Fire Department and Fire Chief Sullivan for protecting our community on the frontlines every day!

The City of Malden was recently awarded a total of $45,000 from the Massachusetts Office on Disability to complete upgrades to the Malden Senior Community Center.

The grant will be funding upgrades to the accessible elements in the bathrooms at the Senior Center; including handicap openers on doors and self-closing hinges on the stall doors. It will also replace the handrails on the ramp to the stage in the auditorium and upgrades to other minor features. The building houses programs for our senior residents, as well as for the Malden Teen Enrichment Center, which runs after-school programs daily.

Thanks to the hard work of the City's Disability Commission, Public Facilities Director Eric Rubin and the Mayor's office, we can ensure everyone has equal access to the programs and services at the Center.

Congratulations again to the Malden Senior Center and thank you for all the wonderful programs and services you provide for our seniors, teens and everyone in between. Hope to see you all soon when the Center reopens again!
